Should I get the 14 kW or 18 kW?
The 14 kW covers the essentials of most homes, while the 18 kW powers larger homes and more circuits — including heavier loads like central A/C. Tell us what you want to run during an outage and we'll help you choose.
Does it run on natural gas or propane?
Both. The generator operates on either natural gas or liquid propane, so it connects to your existing fuel supply and never needs manual refueling during an outage.
How loud is it?
Very quiet for a standby generator. The sound-attenuated enclosure runs at about 65 dB(A) at normal load and just 55 dB(A) in Quiet-Test™ low-speed exercise mode, measured at 23 ft.
How close to my house can it go?
It can be installed as close as 18 in (457 mm) from your home — kept away from doors, windows and fresh-air intakes, and in accordance with local codes.
What's the warranty?
Every unit includes a 5-year limited warranty covering both the generator and the transfer switch, backed by Generac's single-source dealer service network.
Can i install the generator myself?
Generac offers systems prepackaged and pre-wired with comprehensive installation instructions. You could perform the simpler site preparation steps and have a professional make the electrical panel and fuel connections, or you could complete the entire installation yourself.
For safety reasons and to ensure adherence to all local, state and national electrical codes, particularly for non pre-wired or larger systems, Generac recommends you use an authorized Generac dealer or licensed contractor.
Do generators have to be maintained?
- All generators require periodic maintenance, such as oil and filter changes to ensure maximum performance and years of reliable service.
- Scheduled maintenance kits are available and many Generac authorized dealers offer annual maintenance contracts for a worry-free ownership experience.

Mobile Link is an app that allows you to connect to your generator from anywhere that you are. The app allows you access to information, such as, operating status, maintenance schedule, and more. You simply connect your generator to Wi-Fi and download the app.

Can you turn off the WI-FI?
The Wi-Fi network connection is part of the generator’s settings and controller. If you don’t want to connect it to a home network, or avoid connecting to Wi-Fi, you can simply choose not to use thatgenerator monitoring systemfeature and connection.
